John Baldwin

Profile
My roots run deep in North Texas, having grown up in Anna and Allen. I was raised by a mom and dad who both grew up on farms, so I enjoyed walking the fields of the Baldwin family farm that was part of a land grant from the Republic of Texas (yeah, we’ve been here a minute or two). After graduating from Allen High School, I first attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma on a basketball scholarship. Once I realized I wasn’t the next Larry Bird (took one practice), I transferred to Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy. What does one do with a philosophy degree you might ask? Well, one either buys a mountain and dispenses wisdom or one goes to graduate school. Not having the funds for a suitable mountain, I chose the latter and received a Masters of Divinity from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
Professionally, I spent thirty-three years in ministry (twenty as a youth minister) before becoming a licensed residential mortgage broker. I bring the same servant’s heart to my new career as I had in my previous one. I joined American Mortgage because he believes the leadership and loan officers have the same mindset. I approach the people I serve like they are family not clients; being a loan originator is just being your big/little brother who happens to be able to get you the best mortgage out there. So, I look forward to helping you purchase your dream home … and to being invited to the family cookouts.
When I’m not in the office, at a closing, or out meeting realtors and builder’s reps, I enjoy reading, sports, spending time with my family, pina coladas, walks on the beach … sorry, got carried away. I am a brisketarian (Hutchins BBQ) and bibliophile. I think that about covers it. If you have any questions (like, “What sort of mortgage payment do I qualify for?” or “What are rates like right now?” or “Is this guy really that crazy?”), let’s set up a lunch or grab coffee.
